Statement of Purpose for Little Falls City School District Annual
Professional Performance Review Plan:
It is the intent of the Little Falls City School District to foster
ongoing professional growth and development, reflection, and refinement
of professional practice for all of its faculty and staff in order to
improve teaching and learning. The protocols, instruments, and rubrics
included in this document are to be considered a framework for a cycle
of continuous improvement and efficacy for all students, faculty, and
staff.
Demographic Information:
Little Falls is a “city” in Herkimer County, New York. According
to the 2000 Census there are 5,188 people, 2,646 households, and 1,277
families residing in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 97.78
percent White, 0.29 percent Black or African American, 0.33 percent
Native American, 0.58 percent Asian, 0.06 percent from other races, and
0.96 percent from two or more races. The median income for a household
in the city was $23,965 and the median income for a family was $34,583.
Approximately 16.6% of the population is living below the poverty line.
There were 2,339 households out of which 25.0% had children under the
age of 18 living with them, 37.4% were married couples living together,
12.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 45.4% were
non-families. 39.6% of all households were made up of individuals and
21.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The
average household size was 2.15 and the average family size was 2.86.
In the city the population was spread out with 21.8% under the age of
18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and
24.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years.
For every 100 females there were 84.4 males. For every 100 females age
18 and over, there were 81.4 males.
The District serves approximately 1,213 students in grades
Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. The District has two instructional
buildings: Benton Hall Academy, with approximately 562 students
Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5, and Little falls Middle School/High
School with approximately 272 students Grade 6 through 8, and the High
School with approximately 368 students Grade 9 through 12. There are
approximately 11 students in district classified as ungraded. The
District employs approximately 155 people: 96 teachers and 59 support
personnel. The average class size is 21 students per class. There is a
12:1 student teacher ratio. The district is considered a Title I school
with approximately 43 percent of the students eligible for free or
reduced lunch.
